Steps to Follow for Applying the Duram Urethane Wood Varnish

Preparation:

1. Clean the surface thoroughly—remove dirt, grease, algae, and other contaminants.

2. Ensure wood moisture content is below 14%.

3. Repair any imperfections using appropriate filler or knotting sealer.

4. For bare wood: Sand with 80 or 100-grit paper, wipe with a damp cloth, and allow to dry.

5. For previously varnished wood: Sand to a matte finish, remove dust, and test compatibility.

6. With flaking surfaces: Strip old varnish using Duram EcoStripp or DuraStripp, then sand evenly.

How to Apply the Duram Urethane Wood Varnish:

1. Stir thoroughly for 5 minutes using a flat paddle.

2. Apply in a clean, dust-free environment between 5°C and 35°C.

3. Use a natural bristle brush, foam roller, or air-assisted spray.

4. Apply 2 or more coats in the direction of the wood grain.

5. Use long, smooth strokes; sand lightly between coats if fibres appear.

6. Ensure all exposed areas, joints, and end grains are coated.

Cleanup:

• Clean tools with Mineral Turpentine

• Dispose of waste responsibly

• Store remaining varnish in a sealed container

• Wash hands and skin with soap and water
